Houses with Namako walls
namakokabe no ie
Houses with Namako walls were a common style during the Meiji period to early Showa period. It covers the outer wall with square tiles, and fills the gaps with raised plaster in the shape of a kamaboko (fish paste). The name comes the fact that the pattern resemble a Namako (sea cucumber). You can see it in two houses within Kambara; the Sato residence and Yoshida residence.
