Former McKenzie House
KYU-MACKENZIE-JYUTAKU
The building, nicknamed "Former McKenzie House", is a western structure built on the seaside, which has beautiful white walls. Being built in 1940 as the residence of Duncan J. McKenzie and wife Emily M. McKenzie, it has been registered as Japan's tangible cultural property. The couple is related to Shizuoka-shi, Mr. McKenzie as a tea trader and Mrs. Mckenzie as a social welfare specialist. Mrs. Mckenzie is also the first honorary citizen of Shizuoka-shi. The building was designed by William M. Vories, who has constructed many buildings throughout Japan.
